ETIC_Algarve alumni create series for RTP

ETIC_Algarve alumni create series for RTP. André Guerra dos Santos, who took the Film Production Course at ETIC_Algarve between 2011 and 2013, is once again making a name for himself in the Portuguese audiovisual scene with another project gaining national attention. Adónis is the name of the new series written by the author and included in the RTP 2026 Series programme.

The new production follows Miguel, a 40-year-old single man who finds himself at a crossroads in his life. Encouraged by his friends at the health club and thanks to his charisma with older women, he decides to become an escort. Miguel ends up having fun and learning from these older women, giving them attention and joy in return.

Filmed in Lagos, André’s hometown, the series reinforces the author’s connection to his roots and highlights the Algarve as a setting and creative territory for productions with national reach.

A journey built on consistency

André Guerra dos Santos’ career has been marked by continuous work and a clear vision of the stories he wants to tell. Adónis did not come about by chance. It is the result of years of dedication to writing and developing projects with their own identity.

In 2022, he wrote Fada do Lar, a film produced by RTP. The comedy tells the story of Vera, a single mother with two young children who is forced to work two jobs to support her family. During the day she works as a supermarket cashier and at night in a strip club. The narrative balances humour and social criticism, revealing the author’s ability to create human and realistic characters.

More recently, André was also one of the authors of the series Faro, written in collaboration with Tino Navarro and premiered on RTP in 2025. The story centres on an international real estate fund’s attempt to acquire Praia de Faro to build a luxury resort. The resistance of an old fisherman triggers a conflict between economic interests and environmental preservation, pitting development against local identity.

These projects consolidate his name in the Portuguese audiovisual landscape and demonstrate the author’s thematic and narrative versatility.

Talent with training ETIC_Algarve

André’s journey is a clear example that studying and living in the Algarve is no obstacle to entering the audiovisual industry. On the contrary, it can be the starting point for building a solid career with national exposure.

His training at ETIC_Algarve between 2011 and 2013 in the former Film Production Course, now known as the Film Production, Cinema and Television Course, was his starting point, but nothing would have been possible without a great deal of persistence and hard work on André’s part, who has managed to transform ideas into projects that have been realised and shown on public television. His career shows that talent, when combined with technical preparation and dedication, finds room to grow.

As stated by Nuno Ribeiro, director of ETIC_Algarve,

“André’s career shows that talent, when combined with the right training, can achieve national recognition. For us, it is impossible not to feel proud. Once ETIC_Algarve, always ETIC_Algarve. Even though it has been more than 10 years since he finished his training with us, we have never stopped following his work and celebrating every step he takes. Seeing an alumnus write projects with national recognition and reach RTP is proof that talent, when it finds a foundation, support and persistence, can go a long way.”
