Nelson Costa

Nelson Costa is a Senior Game Programmer with over seven years of experience in the gaming industry. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering from Fernando Pessoa University and a Master’s in Professional Practice in Game Development from Abertay University of Dundee. He has worked with companies such as Traveller’s Tales Games, Team 17 and Get Set Games.

His areas of expertise include gameplay programming, generalist work, optimization, and leading small teams in adapting games for consoles. Teaching began in 2021 at IADE, followed by a role at ETIC in 2024. He is passionate about guiding students through complex programming topics, helping them master advanced concepts and technologies essential to game development. The focus is placed on both technical skills and problem-solving, allowing students to grow as well-rounded programmers.

By fostering a hands-on learning environment, it supports students on their path to becoming proficient in various technologies and being prepared for industry challenges. Outside of teaching, Symbiotic Vanguard, the game development company he founded, is dedicated to creating innovative experiences in the world of video games.
