CMS Airlines
Album produced as part of the Music Creation, Production and Sound Techniques 24/26 course at ETIC_Algarve (eticalgarve.com), coordinated by instructor Rafael Correia (Sickonce www.sickonce.com).
CMS Airlines is the title of this album, which depicts a flight from the perspectives of eight different characters (eight tracks); each character/track was composed by pairs of students (16 students; 8 tracks).
Among them are characters from completely different walks of life; yet, despite their differences, all their stories converge on a single point: the same flight.
Inside the aeroplane, social classes dissolve amongst the numbered rows; passengers’ paths cross without them knowing one another and, for a few hours, completely different lives share the same space, the same immediate destination and the same sky.
Musically, each track reflects its character’s identity through different sonic approaches, styles and narratives, creating a diverse collection that is nevertheless united by a common concept.
The album transforms a simple flight into a window onto everyday human life, where we have the opportunity to observe at close quarters the different essences of these very different people, with diverse pasts, goals and conflicts, all linked by the same journey, by the same means, even if only for a brief moment:
- ‘Business Man’ – a man who travels on business;
- ‘Downgrade’ – a character who is kicked out of first class;
- ‘Pai de Família’ – a father who goes on a trip feeling annoyed and upset with his wife;
- ‘Altitude’ – a character who is promoted to first class;
- ‘Stress On Board/Ar’ – a character who is afraid of flying and gets stressed by turbulence, and then takes a tranquilliser;
- ‘Bêbado’ – an alcoholic who goes to visit his fiancée but succumbs to his addiction;
- ‘A Minha Casa É Em Ti’ – a character who returns home after a few years and is reunited with the love of his life;
- ‘Terrorista’ – a terrorist who intends to plant and detonate a bomb, but changes his mind and does not detonate it.
