How to design worlds and characters for video games
The Game Art Course at ETIC_Algarve is a technical and creative programme designed for those who wish to develop skills in the visual aspects of video games and create characters, environments and digital worlds for different types of games. If you are looking for a game design course with a strong practical focus, here you will learn to develop visual concepts, objects, creatures and settings using the tools and methodologies employed in the video game industry.
Throughout this course, you will develop skills in digital art, digital drawing, digital painting and concept art, exploring different visual styles and creative approaches applied to video game development.
We bring industry experience into the course, with tutors who are currently working in the field, to ensure that the training is up-to-date, rigorous and aligned with the real-world challenges of the video game design industry. On this Game Art course in the Algarve, you will work on visual projects that closely mirror professional practice and develop a creative portfolio tailored to the gaming industry.
On the Game Art Course, you will learn:
- Design of original characters and creatures for video games
- Creating environments and settings for different types of games
- Drawing techniques, digital painting and applied illustration to game art
- Fundamentals of design for the visual construction of game worlds and narratives
- Aesthetic, cultural and technical knowledge for video game design
In this digital art course, you’ll do more than just learn techniques; you’ll apply these skills to visual projects focused on video games, exploring different styles and creative approaches.
At the end of this Technical Course in Game Art, you will have the opportunity to take part in an ERASMUS+ European mobility project, gaining valuable international experience through an internship.
ETIC_Algarve also offers an optional 320-hour extracurricular work placement through the JUMP programme – Support for Professional Integration – to help students enter the job market with confidence.

Registration Process
- Schedule a personal interview, please contact info@eticalgarve.com or call 289 823 359 / 960 309 550.
- Completion of application form (sent by e-mail after appointment of interview)
- Attend the interview previously scheduled with the Pedagogical Director, in which you must present Portfolio, if you have
- Registration takes place between March and October, until classes begin, and as long as there are places on the courses.
They may be made after the admission conditions have been verified and upon payment of registration and presentation of:
- Curriculum / Biography
- 1 passport-type photograph, in digital format
- Certificate of qualifications
- Documents of the Applicant and the Payment Manager (Identity Card / Citizen Card + Taxpayer Card + Proof of address: electricity, water, telephone bill or driving licence)
- Completion and signing of the registration form and the training contract.
